TEHRAN, December 21 - Iranian President's Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi said expanding Iran-Azerbaijan ties has an positive impact on regional relations.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - In a meeting with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev, Vaezi stressed boosting bilateral economic and commercial ties to create a jump in bilateral economic, cultural, political and social cooperation.
He also called for developing banking ties, oil cooperation in Caspian Sea and implementing joint projects including Astara-Astara railroad.
He moved to regional issues, saying that, “The region is in very sensitive circumstance now. We have to expand military, defense and security cooperation to prevent spread of terrorism virus to other countries.”
Ilham Aliyev, for his part, said, “Today, the Islamic Republic and Azerbaijan have similar views on many regional and international matters and are trying for promotion of Islamic unity and solidarity.”
“Given current situation, Islamic countries, especially Iran and Azerbaijan should expand their ties further and further through expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation.”
He also called for widening Tehran-Baku cooperation in intelligence, security and defense fields, lauding Iran’s role in fighting terrorism in the region.
