Rouhani stresses long-term security cooperation with Turkey over SyriaTEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Rouhani made the remarks during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held on the sidelines of an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Istanbul on Wednesday.

"The Sochi summit proved that with each other's cooperation positive steps can be taken towards solving the region's problems," said Rouhani.

The Sochi summit, held in late November in the Black Sea resort, was attended by Rouhani, Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"Tehran and Ankara have a common perspective towards battling terrorism and establishing security in the region," added Rouhani.

In recent months, Syrian government troops, backed by Iranian military advisors and Russian airstrikes, have dealt crushing blows to Takfiri terrorists.

Referring to the OIC summit, Rouhani stressed that its results were a source of hope for Muslims around the world.

At the end of the meeting, the OIC released a statement, declaring that it would recognize "East Jerusalem al-Quds as the capital of the State of Palestine and invite all countries to recognize the State of Palestine and East Jerusalem as its occupied capital."

The declaration was a direct response to US President Donald Trump days after he referred to the city as the "eternal capital" of Israel.
