TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -US President Donald Trump has reiterated his plan to build a wall on the United States border with Mexico in the backdrop of an officer’s death.
The American commander in chief took to Twitter on Sunday to stress his resolve to move ahead with construction of the controversial wall.
"Border Patrol Officer killed at Southern Border, another badly hurt," he said. "We will seek out and bring to justice those responsible. We will, and must, build the Wall!"
Identified as Rogelio Martinez, the agent reportedly succumbed to wounds he sustained while on patrol in southwest Texas.
According to Elaine Duke, the acting secretary of Homeland Security, the agency is "fully supporting the ongoing investigation to determine the cause of this tragic event."
"On behalf of the quarter of a million front line officers and agents of DHS, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Agent Martinez and to the agent who is in serious condition," Duke said.
The 36-year-old officer and his partner were both injured while responding to activity in the Big Bend Sector, which runs along the US-Mexico border.
The officials have refused to mention what type of activity the two were responding to.
"The FBI is still actively investigating the incident and gathering the facts," FBI spokeswoman Jeanette Harper said.
The Republican president has vowed to crack down on immigration, in part by building the wall, but has failed to get his complete agenda through so far.
