Tehran, YJC. Iran and Russia navy commanders hope that the two countries expand cooperation in maintaining security over common waters.

Admiral Habibollah Sayyari met with Admiral Viktor Chirkov in St. Petersburg in
the sidelines of the International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS 2013).
In
this meeting the two sides stressed cooperation in Caspian Sea security, joint
exercises, bilateral local visits, education, and technology.
The
Iranian Navy commander also held meetings with his counterparts from Germany,
Greece, Poland, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait. The sides exchanged views
on maritime concerns, cooperation to maintain security over international waters,
piracy, and terrorism.
It is
said that Iran and Russia plan to hold joint drills in the near future.
Sayyari
was invited to the IMDS 2013 by the Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis
Manturov.
