Tehran, YJC. Passive Defense official says that some strategic bridges in the transportation system are provided with 3-layer security systems.

Brigadier General Qolamreza Jalali, Head of the Passive Defense Organization, said in an interview with Fars news agency "The transportation system must be sophisticated and unbreakable. We have developed 3-layer defense mechanisms for some strategic railway bridges.”

"One of the enemy’s objectives at the time of war is to break the logistic system. Hence, crippling the transportation system is always considered. That is why much attention must be given to this sphere. Serious threat always exists in this area,” he added.

Jalali also believed that roads must be stretched according to defense principles, adding "When we have a road from Tehran to Bandar Abbas, parallel routes must also exist. If there is only one route and bridges are bombarded, the whole route will be blocked.”

"There must be parallel roads. When there is a bridge, secondary courses must run along. This is called a full mesh road,’ he further pointed out.

Head of the Passive Defense Organization asserted "In times of crisis and war, the road and railway systems are the ones most used. Urban railway becomes much effective. Therefore there is a multifaceted regard for urban subways. The same view exists throughout the world.”

He asserted that urban subway facilities must be used as a safe place for storing water, first aid equipment, fuel reservoirs, and stretching water, electricity, and gas conveyance systems.

Jalali explained that "The first of such defense layers is road construction. The second one is to prepare and store related technical parts by the bridge so that they could be used for replacement if something happens. Also, parallel railways are being considered.”
