Tehran, YJC. Official says that Iran ranks 15th among 16 regional countries in military budget, not keeping balance with threats.
Major
General Mohammadhossein Dadras, Chief of Army Joint Staff, said "Despite what appears,
the country’s military budget is not in balance with threats, but, thanks to
the Iranian perseverance and achievements in the defense section, the Islamic
Republic’s military power has reached a favorable stage.”
"A
country’s military budget is directly related to its GDP. The GDP is a very
important factor in determining a country’s military budget,” he stated.
Dadras
added "Anyways, we allocate less credit to the military section, but the Supreme
Commander in Chief understands the reality of the armed forces in the best way.
The Majlis also knows. Meanwhile enemies of the system say that we have
invested hugely in the defense section.”
He added
"In the defense section we produce what we need and that which we can control. The
products we have made in the defense section have made us independent.”
He also
provided comments on the sanctions and their effects on the military section "It
is true that the sanctions pressured us to some extent in different sections,
but they have also lead to favorable achievements. It is interesting that
wherever the enemies feel such achievements may lead into capabilities, they
reduce the sanctions a bit to prevent them.”
