TEHRAN, October 26 - An Iranian movie ‘Raftan’ (Parting) received Special Jury Prize in the 19th Sochi International Film Festival in Russia.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The film directed by Navid Mahmoudi grabbed $2.000 cash prize as well.
Navid Mahmoudi's debut is about a young migrant couple's attempt to leave Iran for Europe.
Given its melancholic title, Parting doesn't exactly promise a happily-ever-after ending for its two young Afghan lovebirds seeking a new life in Europe. Then again, Navid Mahmoudi's directorial debut is more about those who are stranded than those who have managed to move: Set nearly entirely in the Iranian capital of Tehran, it's is a compact but vivid illustration of migrant lives in limbo.
The movie is the joint production of Iran and Afghanistan starring Reza Ahmadi, Fereshteh Hosseini, Behrang Alavi, Nazanin Bayati, Masoud Mirtaheri, Sina Soheili, Mahfouz Mahmoudi, Afshin Akhlaghi, Bashir Ahmad, and Shams Langaroudi.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was also present in the closing ceremony of the festival.
