TEHRAN, October 25 - Kurdistan Region’s local government issued a formal statement on Wednesday for the suspension of the Kurdish recession referendum.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The statement shared in tweeter stressed that the conflicts sparked between Iraqi forces and Kurd Peshmergas forces since 16 October 2017 have caused casualties for the both sides, which could lead to a war of attrition between Iraqi groups.

To terminate conflicts and destruction, the Kurdish local government proposed its suggestions:

1- Maintaining immediate ceasefire and stopping all of military operations in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region,

2- Suspension of the results of the referendum held in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region,

3- Initiation of free talks between Kurdistan Region’s local government and federal government of Iraq based on its constitution

Iraq, along with neighbors Iran and Turkey, opposed the vote, warning that the referendum would further complicate the security situation in the Arab country that has been grappling with foreign-backed militancy in its north and west for the past three years.
