TEHRAN, October 24 - Iranian Ambassador to Paris Abolghasem Delfi said Iran’s defense power has nothing to do with Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with P5+1.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “These issues have nothing to do with the nuclear deal (officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPOA,). Our defense power is completely separated from nuclear talks,” he told Iran-France Conference held in Paris.
150 experts, PhD students and heads of French companies took part in the conference.
He said the JCPOA is a multilateral and international agreement certified by the UN Security Council and cannot be changed, adding the IAEA is a judge monitoring compliance of the involved sides to the deal and has announced in 8 consecutive reports that Iran has completely abided by the deal so far.
The Iranian envoy continued that in case the US or other European countries have concerns or questions about Iran’s foreign policy in the Middle East or about its defense power, these issues are totally separated from the nuclear deal.
Speaking from the White House earlier this month, US President Donald Trump said he would not recertify that Tehran is complying with the 2015 nuclear agreement.
The president is required by US law to certify every 90 days whether or not Iran is complying with the nuclear deal. He has certified the deal twice since coming to office.
The US Congress has 60 days to decide whether to reimpose economic sanctions against Tehran, removed under the accord.
