Tehran, YJC. Member of Health and Treatment Commission of the Majlis has said that although the President cannot interfere with the Medical Council elections, they would consider his opinion.
Dr. Mohammad Javad Nazari Mehr in an interview with Danakhabar news agency provided comments on the 6th round of elections in the Medical Council and Ahmadinejad's statements necessitating revisions in the candidate list. "The President conveyed his opinions, but the elections must be held Friday, February 22,” he said.

Nazari Mehr added "One cannot be 100 percent sure that the issue applies to all since the candidates were judged by the supervisory board. Two of the supervisory board members came from the government itself; therefore the President's statements cannot alter the elections.”

"The law doesn't authorize the President to interfere with Medical Council elections. He has expressed his opinion and we consider it. But we will have the election on February 22,” he asserted, warning that such consideration must not affect the future course of decision-making.

He also added "The majority opinion is what counts in the elections. Accordingly, one person will be elected as Head of the Medical Council. We must adhere to this rule because there has been the supervisory board which oversees everything.”
