Top Iran, Russia navy officials discuss Caspian Sea security

TEHRAN, August 27 - High-ranking Iranian and Russian naval officials have discussed ways to safeguard security in the Caspian Sea.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - High-ranking Iranian and Russian naval officials have discussed ways to safeguard security in the Caspian Sea only through cooperation among the littoral states.

Rear Admiral Sayyari, the Commander of Iran's Navy met with a high ranking Russian navy delegation on the sidelines of the 3rd International Maritime Security Symposium.

“We believe that the Caspian Sea is the sea of peace and friendship,” asserted the Commander of Iran's Navy Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari on Saturday, “and at no means a foreign meddling is needed to guarantee the security of this sea and the countries located in the shoreline of the sea are capable of defending it.”

The Iranian commander made the remarks, on the last day of his visit to Indonesia for attending the 3rd International Maritime Security Symposium, during his meeting with a high ranking Russian navy delegation. He met with the delegation at the request of the Russians.

During the conversation, the two sides asserted on providing the security of the sea exclusively by the countries that border it.

Also the two parties underlined the call for bolstering bilateral ties especially in the areas of maritime interaction and developing cooperation for educational and technical purposes.
