Tehran, YJC. Defense Minister says that measures by the EU to help a rival side in Syria may lead to counteractions by regional countries.
Speaking
in the sidelines of the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Brigadier General Ahmad
Vahidi said "The Syrian army is strong
and needs no weapon. There is no need
for Iran to give them weapons.”
Vahidi
also provided comments on new military projects such as the operation of
newly-developed, air-based missiles, domestic submarine, and space surveillance
center.
He condemned
the removal of sanctions from weapons to be sold to Syrian terrorists and added
"It is a wicked act by the EU to give terrorists weapons to demolish a country’s
infrastructure.”
Answering
Western claims that Iran provides the Syrian government with weaponry, the Defense
Minister said "Syria is a powerful country. It has stood before the Zionist regime.
There is no need to send weapons to Syria. The Syrian Army is strong, as
witnessed by its major role in clearing different areas of the country of
terrorists.”
