Tehran, YJC. Hashemi has said that one of his reasons for running for presidency was to bring the world’s Sunni and Shiite together.
Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said "One of my reasons in foreign policy to run for presidency was to reduce sectarian hatred and boost solidarity between Shiite and Sunni throughout the Islamic world.”
Hashemi
also provided comments on the extremist actions taken by the Kharejites during
the reign of Imam Ali which ended in the Imam’s assassination, saying "At a
point of time dogmatism turned into an logical approach. Then it continued
through history. In the Islamic Revolution as well, although it was lead by
someone no less than Imam Khomeini, remnants of this mode of thought were
prevalent and exist in society even now.”
