TEHRAN, August 18 -Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned a recent terror attack in Barcelona, Spain, calling on the international community to “join forces” against terrorism.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -"We strongly condemn this brutal and cynical crime against civilians," Putin said Thursday, shortly after an alleged Daesh sympathizer smashed his van into pedestrians in Barcelona’s busy Las Ramblas Street, killing at least 13 and injuring some 80 others.
"What has happened once again emphasizes the need for the global community to join efforts to fight against the forces of terror," the Russian head of state added.
Putin expressed sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
Echoing Putin, Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also condemned the attack, calling it a “heinous crime.”
"I am confident that we can conquer international terrorism only through joint efforts of the whole global community," he wrote.
Spanish police said they had arrested two people and were treating the attack as an act of terrorism.
The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on its Amaq propaganda website later on Thursday night.
