TEHRAN, July 24, YJC - US President Donald Trump is set to sign a Russia sanctions measure by the US Congress, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says.

TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - The new White House spokesperson made the comments in an interview with ABC on Sunday.

Lawmakers at the US House of Representatives will consider the sanctions package as early as Tuesday.

According to Sanders, the Trump administration backs being tough on Russia and "particularly putting these sanctions in place."

"We support where the legislation is now, and will continue to work with the House and Senate to put those tough sanctions in place on Russia until the situation in Ukraine is fully resolved," Sanders said on ABC's "This Week."

Lingering issues with the bill, which also targets Iran as well North Korea, were finally resolved among Republican and Democratic lawmakers on Saturday.

"North Korea, Iran and Russia have in different ways all threatened their neighbors and actively sought to undermine American interests," claimed California Republicans Kevin McCarthy, the House majority leader, and Ed Royce of California, the Foreign Affairs Committee chairman, in a statement.

The bill "will now exclusively focus on these nations and hold them accountable for their dangerous actions," added the statement.

The US president has been pressured by the GOP-controlled Congress over his Russia-friendly views, in part by the new sanctions.

The European Union has even warned the US lawmakers against imposing new sanctions on Moscow.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has also vowed to reciprocate the sanctions imposed by the United States against the Islamic Republic “under any pretext.”

Under Trump, Washington has slapped a series of new sanctions against Iranian individuals and entities over the Islamic Republic’s missile work, which is not in breach of the nuclear agreement, reached between Tehran and the world powers in 2015.
