Tehran, YJC. Qalibaf says that Hashemi’s approach to presidency has shown to be dictatorial.

In a meeting with some one hundred media directors on Tuesday, Mohammadbaqer Qalibaf said "Hashemi was in power for 16 years while no one could speak in contempt of him. His return would rather resemble militarism than democracy.”

He asserted that the worst injustice to people is to return to 20 years ago, adding "In these delicate situations we must not let the country slip into the hands of some politico.”

He also regarded the Supreme Leader’s support for Hashemi during his presidency as inconclusive, "with no positive outcome in the socio-cultural sphere.”

"If the record of the past 20 years was defensible there would have been no objection, but the record is open to people. I must say with no grudge that the Reform administration was born out of the Hashemi administration. Just look at the press of that time. Much immorality, misconduct, and talk of which we, in the Reformist administration, are critic was originated in the Reform administration. If you take a look at the newspapers from the [mid 90s to mid 2000s] and scrutinize the Red Eminence, you will find out where the immorality came from.”

He asserted "I still do not understand how and under what logic can a reformist administration, which used to pursue a civilized society and political development, try after 4 years to reappoint a President who has been in power for 8 years.”
