Tehran, YJC. Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council said on Wednesday that economic cooperation is regarded as the most prominent priority in relations between Iran and Iraq.

The Iranian statesman made the remarks in a meeting with Iraq’s Transport Minister Baqer Al-Zubaidi who was visiting Tehran.

Pointing to the establishment of the new government in Iraq and also the country’s growing security standards, he underscored that the two neighboring countries have focused on enhancing their economic cooperation.

Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council also said the two countries sought avenues for bolstering all-out ties in rebuilding the damaged infrastructure such as rail, land, aerial and marine transportation caused by terrorist attacks.

Elsewhere, in a meeting with the visiting Iraqi Defense Minister Khalid Al-Obeidi in Tehran on Tuesday, Shamkhani stressed that all areas of Iraq will soon be wiped clean of terrorists.

The senior Iranian statesman said that not as much as an inch of the Iraqi soil should be held by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists, condemning the unprecedented heinous acts practiced against Iraqi civilians by terrorists.

He further underscored the need for a swift return of displaced Iraqi people to their hometowns.
