RABAT, January 12 (Itar-Tass) - Unidentified killers shot down Libyan Deputy Industry Minister Hassan al-Droui in the city of Sirte, 500 kilometres east of the Libyan capital of Tripoli, overnight to Sunday, sources in the law enforcement agencies in the North African country reported.
This is the first assassination of a member of the Libyan interim government after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's rule.
Libya is living through an acute political crisis, as the country's incumbent authorities cannot establish order in the country. Two years after the victory of the so-called February 17 revolution and the end of the civil war that resulted in the toppling and assassination of Jamahiriya leader Muammar Gaddafi, several units of former militiamen, including radical Islamists, who do not obey to the country's authorities and impose their laws on the territories they are controlling, keep rampaging in the country.
Back late in December 2013 hundreds of protesters have besieged the Libyan Central Bank in Tripoli demanding the resignation of the government. Since last summer armed militiamen do not lift blockade from the oil ports in Libya that undermines the paying capacity of the country and scares away potential foreign investors.
