Tehran, YJC. Larijani says European countries hold friendly relations with countries worst in terms of human rights, making one believe that human rights is not a big concern for them.
Head
of Iran’s Human Rights Staff Mohammadjavad Larijani said "We strongly doubt
that human rights must be a pivotal issue in foreign policy for European states;
because European states have the friendliest relations with countries that have
the worst records in human rights, but on the other hand show the most negative
stances against a country like Iran which is the biggest and only democracy in the
Middle East and whose judicial system is utterly independent and clear.”
Larijani
who was speaking at a meeting with a European parliamentary delegation of five
added "The obstacles that hinder the Iran-West dialogue come largely from
magnified, unilateral prejudgments as well as double standards adopted by Western
countries and some European states.”
He added
"In the past 3 decades Iran has had a very precious and rare experience which
has lead into a democracy that is based on Islamic rationality. This democracy
has transformed Iran from a state appointed by the US into the biggest
democracy in the Middle East and the most advance country in technological
terms.”
The
Secretary of Iran’s Human Rights staff asserted "We believe that the US and
some Western states of Europe have started a blind enmity with Iran. The sanctions
currently imposed on Iran, as well as political media barrage and especially
very disgraceful gestures that contain military threats, tell of the West’s
wrong approach to the Iranian experience, an experience which has found
reverberations in the Islamic world, a kind of renaissance underway.”
"Iran
gives special attention to human rights. The operations of the Human Rights
Staff at high levels involving all related organizations indicate a great will
by the Islamic system on this ground,” he asserted.
