Tehran, YJC. Makarem Shirazi says that Muslims in China must be free to perform their Ramadan observances.

Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi speaking in the holy Shrine of Masoumeh on Monday said "News has come that fasting is a crime in China and they force people to break their fast.”

"I hope that it is not so. The Chinese government holds good relations with Islamic countires, but we do not expect our Muslims brothers in that country not to be able to fast,” he added.

"You Chinese officials must know that their fasting, faith, and Islam are in your interest. Do not judge by a bunch of Takfiri Wahhabists who have defamed themselves before the world. Muslims are faithful to the country where they settle. I hope that this is made up for and the country’s Muslims are let free to observe their religious rites.”

He added "We thank God that we live in a country where people are not only free in their religious observances, but are encouraged in them.”
