In comparison to 2019, gun purchases accelerated in the US in 2020-21. A recent study on new gun ownership in US shows just in the period of time between January 2020 and April 2021 more than 5 million adults became first-time owners while this number was 2.4 million in 2019.
Between 2019 and 2020, the total number of gun purchases increased from 13.8m to 16.6m. This study also reveals that half of new gun owners were women and nearly half of them were people of color.
