Iran’s Shamkhani: Continuing Astana talks, solution to end Syrian crisis
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Shamkhani in a phone call with Secretary of Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev touched on the necessity of continuing political talks between Syrian armed groups and government and said, "Respecting people’s demand to freely decide about their future and destination as well as avoiding any foreign pressure in the process of political talks should be considered”.

He said that a new process in lessening terrorist groups’ power and territory and establishing ceasefire for people’s security has been started through consultation and close cooperation of three countries of Iran, Russia and Syria.

This process should continue to meet people’s demands through new initiatives, Shamkhani said.

The successful Astana talks showed that focus on solutions based on regional participation could help speeding up an end to the security crisis in Syria.

Patrushev, for his part, stressed continuing consultations between Iran and Russia to speed up materialization of political solutions in Syria, and said, "Certain cross-regional players are ignoring the necessity of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria and seek plans to divide Syria.”

He said that Astana meeting is a successful initiative to settle the Syrian crisis.

Iran and Syria should use their potential to influence parties to the conflict to improve establishing stability and ceasefire continuation.
