Wednesday, 24 November 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UN emphasized the Office on Drugs and Crime’s critical role in facilitating the Global Plan of Action against Trafficking in Persons.

Takht Ravanchi Stressed UNODC’s Critical Role in Facilitating TIPAddressing the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly for the Appraisal of the United Nations Global Plan of Action against Trafficking in Persons in New York, Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi emphasized the Office on Drugs and Crime’s critical role in facilitating the Global Plan of Action against Trafficking in Persons.

“Trafficking in persons is one of the most notorious crimes,” he said while urging the international community to provide effective technical assistance to countries to combat this crime.

Iranian official went on to say that this session would be effective in finding the challenges in the implementation of the Global Plan of Action against Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and finding ways to tackle them.

“United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crimes (UNTOC) and its protocols had made efforts to create a coherent cross-border regulatory environment,” he added while noting that Iran has taken the necessary steps to combat human trafficking by saying “Iran reiterates its commitment to fight TIP and considers the role of the United Nations bodies.”
