Friday, 20 August 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian President stressed the fact that his government will give priority to the expansion of relations with China in different areas.

Raeisi: Expansion of Relations with China is New Gov.’s PriorityIn a phone talk with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi underlined that his government will give priority to the expansion of relations with China in different areas.

“In the area of foreign policy, the priority for the new Iranian government is the enhancement of the level of cooperation and expansion of relation,” Raeisi said.

He went on to refer to the 25-year comprehensive strategic partnership agreement that was signed by Iran and China back in March and said “the complete implementation of this agreement should be on the agenda of all of the countries.”

He also thanked China for backing Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and urged Beijing to expedite delivery of millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccines that Iran had bought from China in order to be able to fight the pandemic.

“Iran is prepared to cooperate with China on the issue of establishment of security, stability, and calm in Afghanistan,” he said while adding that “The US' withdrawal from Afghanistan showed that it was Afghans, who had to join their efforts towards guaranteeing the country’s security and development.”

The Chinese president, for his part, said that the countries’ relations had seen various international developments over the past half a century and promised that China would spend maximum effort to help Iran receive the vaccines.

Also, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Iranian President Seyed Eberahim Rayeesi's nominee for the post of foreign minister, and China’s special envoy Yue Xiaoyong held a meeting during which they stressed the need for continued expansion of bilateral relations.
