Sunday,25 July 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman criticized the recent statement from UN High Commissioner for Human Rights regarding the recent events happened in SW Iran.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh reacted to the interventionist and politicized statement of the UN Higher Commissioner for Human Rights regarding the events happened in Iran’s Southwestern Province, Khuzestan.
“The statement issued by the Commissioner on recent events in Khuzestan province is regrettable in terms of invalidity and incorrect information,” he said while noting that such acts are solid evidence for the politicization.
He went on to say that “The statement released by the UN high commissioner is more like a political statement than the remarks of and high rank human right official.”
“It is neither upon the UN official nor the institution itself to comment on this issue in such an unprofessional and biased manners,” he said while adding that “The water crisis in Khuzestan province is the result of a series of natural phenomena.”
Khatibzadeh went on to raise a question and asked “What is the reason for the UN High Commissioner for the Human Rights not to condemn illegal sanctions imposed by the US against Iranian nation, which has led to the violation of many fundamental human rights of this nation?”
Finally, he noted that “Iran respects the right of its citizens for organizing peaceful protest,” and added “The country's high-ranking officials have recognized the water shortage in the region and the right to peaceful protest.”
