Wednesday, 26 May 2021 (YJC) _ For the second year, the Iranian lawmakers elected Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf as the speaker of the parliament.
During an open session of the parliament on Wednesday, the Iranian lawmakers elected Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf as the speaker of the parliament.
He received 230 from a total number of 242 votes cast by the lawmakers. Ali Nikzad and Abdolreza Mesri were also respectively elected as the first and second vice-speakers with 206 and 205 votes each.
Qalibaf, 58, replaced Ali Larijani after the parliamentary elections on February 21, 2020.
Currently, The Iranian parliament has 290 representatives, while previously it had 272 seats. The last parliamentary polls were held in February 2019.
The lawmakers take the seats for a four-year term.
