Friday, 08 January 2021 (YJC) _ US Ambassador to Israel claimed his country’s democracy will emerge stronger.

David Friedman claimed US’ democracy will emerge strongerUS Ambassador to Israel David Friedman expressed optimism that US democracy will "emerge stronger," after protesters stormed the US Capitol on Friday.

"Our Republic was severely tested this week. But we proved our resilience in the face of unprecedented stress," said Friedman. "Our Constitution worked, as did our laws and our law enforcement.

"Our democracy will emerge stronger and, once again, with an orderly transition of power."

Ambassador Friedman's comments follow a Wednesday protest in which supporters of US President Donald Trump laid siege to the Capitol building - in an assault on American democracy - to stop Congress from formally ratifying President-elect Joe Biden's election victory amid unfounded allegations from the president that the election was "stolen" from him.

Many have pointed the finger at Trump for instigating his supporters to carry out the insurrection in Washington, which lead to the deaths of five people.

The US ambassador congratulated President-elect Joe Biden and offered "any assistance that may be requested to aid in transition," touching briefly on the current state of US-Israel relations.
