Andrew Bremberg, the American ambassador in Geneva, made the comments in a statement on Wednesday, calling on other nations to follow suit.
This is while police brutality is evermore rampant in protests, triggered by the high-profile murder of George Floyd, an African American, by a white officer in Minnesota last month.
"As the world's leading advocate for human rights we call upon all governments to demonstrate the same level of transparency and accountability that the U.S. and our democratic partners practice," he said.
The statement was meant to affect the Human Rights Council’s urgent debate at the request of African countries on racism and police brutality against protesters.
