The new move by the United States to levy sanctions against the International Criminal Court shows sheer "hypocrisy of the American policies," says a political commentator, arguing that the US cannot be both a player and an arbiter on the international stage.

‘Hypocrisy of American policies’ revealed in US ICC sanctions: AnalystJames Jatras, former US Senate foreign policy analyst from Washington DC, made the remarks during a Friday edition of Press TV’s The Debate program, while commenting on US sanctions against ICC officials over their probe into US war crimes in Afghanistan.

In the latest attempt by Washington to force the Hague-based tribunal out of the investigation into potential war crimes by US military and intelligence officials in the Asian country, President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Thursday, saying that the United States would block all American property and assets of anyone in the ICC involved in the probe.

Rights activists slammed Trump's executive order with Human Rights Watch saying that such a move "demonstrates contempt for the global rule of law."
