TEHRAN, Feb 05 -Anti-war American lawmaker, Tulsi Gabbard, has rejected a 2020 endorsement by David Duke, a founder and former grand wizard of the notorious Ku Klux Klan (KKK).
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “I have strongly denounced David Duke’s hateful views and his so-called ‘support’ multiple times in the past, and reject his support,” said the first Hindu member of US Congress in a statement to The Hill on Tuesday.
The Hawaii representative was endorsed by Duke on Twitter
“Tulsi Gabbard in 2020. Finally, a candidate for president who will really put America First?” he tweeted Monday.
‘New cold war’
In her response, the Iraq war veteran asserted that she aims to prevent a nuclear war and “end the new cold war” after winning the 2020 presidential election.
“Publicizing Duke's so-called ‘endorsement’ is meant to distract from my message: that I will end regime-change wars, work to end the new cold war and take us away from the precipice of a nuclear war, which is a greater danger now than ever before,” said the staunch opponent of US military interventionism.
US President Donald Trump recently withdrew the US from a key Cold War-ear nukes pact.
Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that Moscow would follow suit after Washington suspended the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.
‘A movement of aloha’
This is not the first time the Democratic politician is rejecting endorsement by Duke.
“Our movement is one of love/aloha, inclusivity. Duke represents hatred, racism, anti-Semitism, fear. We don’t want his ‘support.’ Period,” she said in December 2016.
Duke had called on Trump to assign Gabbard as the country’s secretary of state.
“U didn't know I'm Polynesian/Cauc? Dad couldn't use "whites only" water fountain. No thanks. Ur white nationalism is pure evil,” she tweeted in response in November 2016.
