TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Musa Mudfa, who is from the city of Nablus, north of the West Bank, came first in the competition’s category of memorization of the entire Quran last week.
Following his successes, Yoav Mordechai, the coordinator of the Israeli government activities in the occupied territories, in a message congratulated him on the achievement.
But Mudfa did not welcome the message, saying in a post on his Facebook page, “I thank God for winning this Quranic award. However, a message of congratulation from someone like you doesn’t make me proud.”
He added that “no one is fighting the Quran now like you are.”
Mudfa also recalled that he has once been detained by Israeli forces for taking part in a Quran recitation session.
Croatia’s 25th international Quran competition was held on September 27-29 with the participation of 75 Quran reciters and memorizers from 42 countries.
Iran’s Kazem Azarpira bagged the top prize in the category of recitation of the Quran.
