TEHRAN, February 22 - Iran’s Shamkhani: Nuclear deal ‘important test’ for EuropeTEHRAN,Young Journalists Club (YJC) - “The JCPOA is an important test for Europe and in case the example of the JCPOA will fail to prove successful considering US negative measures, it means defeat of the international credit of talks logic,” he said in a meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis here in Tehran.

Shamkhani said the EU has not shown the required activities to preserve the nuclear deal.

“US plan to make changes in the JCPOA and take it as a hostage to confine achievements of Iran is a politically-tainted game. We express clearly that there will be no need to go ahead with the nuclear deal if it does not bring the required interests for us.”

He said Iran’s defense power is never negotiable given bitter historical experiences and reckless attacks of western countries on countries lacking deterrence power.

Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council – the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China – plus Germany signed the nuclear agreement on July 14, 2015 and started implementing it on January 16, 2016.

Under the deal known as the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.
