TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) - Celebrations began on Saturday after the Iraq army fully purged the strategic Old City neighborhood following extreme clashes with the terrorists in the last area remaining in their control.
After the announcement, the Iraqi army stated that over 14,500 terrorists were killed since the beginning of the operations to literate the city, which began last year.
Iraqi army soldiers and volunteer fighters from the Popular Mobilization Units, commonly known by their Arabic name, Hashd al-Sha’abi, have made sweeping gains against Daesh since launching the Mosul operation on October 17, 2016.
The Iraqi forces took control of eastern Mosul in January after 100 days of fighting, and launched the battle in the west on February 19.
The army also noted that at least 22,000 Iraqi families had been freed for the terrorists clutches during the same period.
