TEHRAN, June 18, YJC -US Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren has blasted President Donald Trump’s economic policies, saying they are hurting the middle-class Americans who voted for him.
TEHRAN, Young Journalists Club (YJC) -The Massachusetts senator made the remarks during a town hall event in New York while launching her new book “This Fight is Our Fight: The Battle to Save America’s Middle Class”.
“What Donald Trump and the Republican majority in the House and the Senate want to do to us, is they want to deliver the knockout blow to the middle class,” she said.
She also denounced the president on women's rights, saying that "women's right are not up from grabs.”
“The character of a nation is not the character of its president,” Warren said. “The character of a nation is the character of its people.”
Warren has earlier said that Trump failed to deliver on his promise to help working-class people, accusing him of delivering “a gut punch to America's working people.”
She has said Trump vowed to make working-class people his top priority, but instead he assembled a team of billionaires and bankers at the White House which is working against the middle-class.
Warren, an outspoken critic of Trump’s divisive policies, has also slammed Trump’s attempt to bar entry of people to the US from certain predominantly Muslim countries.
She called Trump’s executive order in this regard “a betrayal of American values,” saying, “A Muslim ban by any other name is still a Muslim ban."
Trump signed an executive order in late January, originally placing a 90-day travel ban on people from Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Iraq, and Yemen and a 120-day ban on any refugees. Iraq was removed from the list in a revised version of the ban on March 6.
The January order was blocked by a judge in Seattle amid mass protests worldwide. The March 6 visa ban has also been put on hold due to court rulings in Maryland and Hawaii, which found the measure was likely unconstitutional and tainted by anti-Muslim bias.
