Tehran, YJC. Member of Tehran City Council says that his Reformist colleagues endorse Mohsen Hashemi in mayoral elections.
"The
City Council Reformists try for Mohsen Hashemi to become mayor,” asserted
Masoud Soltani, member of Tehran City Council in an interview with Mehr News
Agency.
He
added "For now, Mr. Mohsen Hashemi is the choice of the Reformist members of
Tehran City Council for the mayorship of Tehran; and we must try so that he
gets the vote he needs.”
Asked
about the chances for the mayor to be elected with majority vote, he said "We
must wait a few days and see what happens. But members of the new City Council
have requested a meeting with the president and we are waiting the answer in
order to establish more relations with the government.”
Meanwhile, sources report that in the most recent changes within the City Council, Ahmad Masjedjamei, Reformist member who served as Khatami's minister of culture, is chosen as the chairman of the City Council.
